During my internship at Dutch Invertuals, I contributed to the realization of a large-scale scenography project commissioned by the high-end fashion brand Hermès. For Hermès’ annual theme of drawing, the studio created a series of 27 window displays across seven cities in the Benelux and Nordics
The project, “Notes of a Fantastic Voyage”, conceptualized an explorer’s journal where discoveries unfold like pages from a travel journal. The windows display a fantastical world featuring everything from paper mushrooms to cheerful jellyfish and richly textured backdrops, inviting people to pause, look closer, and explore.
My role
As a Design Intern, my primary responsibility was to translate the studio’s conceptual sketches into tangible, physical visuals. Working under the guidance of the Design Director, I translated the studio’s narrative vision into reality. While the overall creative direction was established by the Dutch Invertuals team, I was responsible for the technical development and iterative development of key elements.
Key Contributions
3D Modelling & Fabrication: Utilizing Rhino 3D, I developed specific construction methods to recreate organic forms -mushrooms, bubbles, and jellyfish – into geometric shapes using paper. These were based on initial hand-made prototypes to confirm the structural review for the final fabrication.
Prototyping: I was involved in the material and form experimentation phase, creating diverse maquettes to test structures and visual language of the studio before final production.
Illustration: I hand-drew the content for the explorer’s journal prop pages, visualizing the creatures and journey narrative to align with the studio’s aesthetic goals.
